Volume License XP repaired with OEM - possible to return product ID to Volume License? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I repaired a (legal) volume license installation of XP with an OEM Installation disk, because the Volume License upgrade disk was not bootable and I needed to repair the installation with the "F6 install SCSI driver" method.

Now I incorrectly have an OEM product ID and the wrong product key, taken from the OEM disk.

Is it possible to get this back to a volume license installation without repairing again with a bootable volume license disk (which I don't currently have)?

    Thanks

  • Keith,

Unfortunately this falls outside the support scope for the WGA Forums. Have you contacted your companies system administration section and asked for guidance? Please do so as there may be corporate policies and other concerns which may require the system to be completely reimaged.

    Thank you,

    Stephen

  • Hello Keith_Ion,

The Product Key Updater *might* work, don't know for sure, never tried it for a situation like yours.

If not, please get a GENUINE bootable disc from your organization's tech support people and do a repair.

  • Hi, Thanks for the replies.  Unfortunately the Product Key Updater did not work as it expects an OEM key.  I'll go back to company sysadmins.
