diagnostic tool wont work either! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running into a circus of incompleted "fixes".  Please tell me what to "fix" first.

I suspected that the Windows XP Pro on this computer I received by donation, was not genuine.  So, I've purchased & received the WGA Kit.

Here's a list of the problems I've encurred (I don't know where to start fixing)

*currently using Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version: 5.1.2600

    Service Pack: 1.0

    * the Auto Updater is ON but Service Pack2 will not download - it quits before finishing (I'm on dial-up)

    * I've tried to use the Diagnostic Program. It showed that all checks "Passed" I, then I clicked the button that said Windows. But it's still running (after about 20 mins, now) and shows a page of gobbly de gook.   don't think that's what I need to copy & paste here.

*I have the new Genuine Advantage Key and CD, but the Auto Key Update Tool won't d/l and stops to show me the Error 0x800402c9 telling me I don't have enough disk space - but I have pleanty of unused RAM and quite a bit of unused Hard Disk space - I've bought a book, read online, etc. etc. trying to adjust the Virtual Memory by increasing the Paging File size (could that be the cause of these problems?)

    * The window I'm typing this post in, is showing weird.  The "Post Options" menu covers this word-type window, and occasionally the cursor disappears.  But I'm gonna take another chance and hit the "Submit" button.  Please help.

Thank you for visiting the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program forum.

Do you have questions about your Genuine Advantage Kit you previously ordered, including what the product key is? Please refer to the following link for phone numbers and operational hours. See below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cuphone

You should receive an e-mail from service@microsoft.com  and it will contain the 25 digit Product Key along with instructions for running the conversion tool. Please print a copy of the email for your records. You may be asked for your Product Key in the future if you request Windows Product Support. The next step of the update process will also ask you for your Product Key.

    Windows Product Key Update Tool:

     http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=45668

This tool will lead you through several steps to convert your current Windows Vista software to a genuine and activated copy of Windows Vista.  All active items in your order for Microsoft Products have been shipped.

Note:  It is important to check your junk email folder to ensure your confirmation email has not been sent to this location. The originating email will be from service@microsoft.com .  If you have junk email set to automatically move and delete messages, you should request further information from the contacts listed above. They will be able to send you another email. You may also list *.microsoft.com in your trusted domains for email and receive future Microsoft email directly into your Inbox. You may need to contact your email provider for steps on how to make this adjustment.

Thank you for visiting the WGA program forum.
