  • Question

  • So this computer was bought about 4 and a half years ago and xp came installed.  my brother played world of warcraft on it and picked up a keylogger among other virus's from browsing internet and such so he tried to reinstall and format and it said invalid key and started saying the copy wasnt genuine. he then just bought a new computer and recently i decided to use it and i would like to format the harddrive and get that annoying message out of the corner of my screen. the diagnostic tool said this

  • Hello dcskater0512,

Your Gateway computer currently has a nongenuine Volume Licesning installation of XP Pro on it.  The mgadiag report says the PID is Geographically Blocked.   The product key is one that is widely pirated, just do a search for it either on this forum on on the internet in general.

You stated that "the copy was bought right down the street."  I would strongly suggest walking right down the street with a printout of the above report and demanding a refund for "the copy" (and yup it's a copy all right) you bought.

The report says that this is a Gateway computer.  Does the computer have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) on it?  If so, it is still licensed to run the Windows version and edition that is listed on the CoA.  Let us know what it is, but don't post the product key.
