Can Server backup include workstation backup? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Workstations backup to the server. Server backup backs up shares to an external drive to move offsite. What if workstations contain data and the building burns down. The offsite does not contain any way to rebuild the workstations and therefore the workstation data will be lost because it is only onsite (workstation and PC backup on server). Am I missing part of the puzzle? How does one protect the workstation backups. I hope that I'm just missing a setting? Thanks.

  • As designed, no. Server backup in V1 doesn't have the ability to back up the client backup database. (The next version will have that ability.)

However, you can either do so manually, using the procedure Microsoft has outlined in their Home Computer Backup and Restore technical brief, or (better) install the Backup DataBase Backup (BDBB) add-in which automates the same process for you.

  • Gracias. I'm a little late to the party, but really appreciate the directions. After reading the brief it's apparent that DB backup issue is a real one and not handled too gracefully in v1.
