Is my Windows 7 Genuine??

Question
-
I bought this computer second hand about three or four months ago. Today it appears that my Windows isn't genuine. This is my Microsoft Genuine Diagnostic tool report. Quick note: I may answer my own question here but the windows product key here isn't the one my case. I tried to change it but it says it's not a valid product key. Did someone put that there for show, just to catch me out?

The machine here appears to be licensed for Windows Vista, rather than Windows 7.
For what version and edition of Windows is the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment) valid?
Windows Keys are ONLY valid for one version/edition of Windows, so a Windows Vista Home Premium Key will not activate Windows 7 Ultimate (which is what's installed here).

The installed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate is counterfeit. You will need to format your hard drive and reinstall the original Windows 7 operating system it originally shipped with. Please see: How to perform a Dell Windows 7 recovery

Thanks for the replies. The sticker says Windows XP Professional (if that's what you're asking). Now knowing the windows 7 is counterfeit, how do I go about reverting back to Windows Vista? Or is that at all possible, without a installation disk?Wednesday, October 22, 2014 6:56 PM

One cannot "revert" back to Windows Vista from Windows 7. You'll need to purchase a genuine edition of Windows 7 and perform a "clean install".

To go back to the original licensed OS (XP in this case) you'd need to do a clean install using legitimate media and Key.
If you want to keep Windows 7 Ultimate then you'd have to purchase a license (probably an OEM System Builder one, since MS stopped selling retail and upgrade ones some time ago) and either swap the Key in, or do a repair install.
