How to Upgrade from 2003 server to 2008 server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I am Bhanu from India, and i have completed 70-290 and 70-291 papers on one year back. These two papers are based on windows server 2003 OS. Now i want to complete my MCSA certification and then MCSE certification.

    Here are my questions.

    1) In order to complete MCSA, Do i need to write other two papers (One client and one elective exam) or directly we can write the papers from 2008 OS.

    2) If we write 2008 OS then what are the papers i need to write to complete my MCSA and MCSE.

    3) Please direct me to complete MCSA and MCSE certifications successfully .

    Please help me on this.

  • Personally, I wouldn't recommend completing either the MCSA or MCSE.  They're based on techniology that is 8 yeasrs old.  I would suggest pursuing the MCITP Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-windowsserver.aspx#tab2

  • All of the information is available on the Microsoft Learning site.

    For MCSA - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcsa.aspx#tab2

    For MCSE - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcse.aspx#tab2

You'll need to complete a Windows Client exam for the MCSE (I'd suggest Windows 7 -70-680), 70-293 and 70-294, 70-297 or 70-298, along with another elective.  That's a total of five exams just to earn the MCSE (which will also earn you the MCSA).  Then...to upgrade the MCSE to MCITP Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator, you'll need to complete both 70-649 and 70-647 (assuming you took the 70-680 exam).

Again, it would be a better use of your time to just take the MCITP Server 2008 couirses.

  • Hey may use Windows Server 2003 in his current work environment. If thats the case, then it wouldnt be a bad idea to finish up the MCSA/MCSE and upgrade to MCITP:EA.

As previously mentioned, you can upgrade, but it is a lot of tests to do.
