Cant go from red to green RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Considering the problems that people have had when they tried to just renew their subscription online and the threat of possible identiy theft, stolen bank account information, and just being unsure if I am still protected by One Care, etc, my husband and I decided just to buy a new Window's Live One Care from the local Staples.

When we went to update our computer, it said you must first uninstall the old, so we did. We followed all the directions and now still almost 48 hours later, still no green icon. How do I know if I'm protected? When will it go green?

  • Please open One Care and post back what One Care reports as an "Action To Take".

  • As Jim noted, open OneCare and see what action or actions OneCare wants you to take in order to enable full protection.

If the action to take is that you need to renew, you will need to renew with the product key from your newly purchased copy.

You did not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply needed to renew with the retail key.

Now that you reinstalled, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherited the subscription status of the existing subscription and you were not prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.
