  • I have up until now refused to download Genuine Advantage.  Now Windows won't even let me see critical updates without downloading this tool.  My main hesitation has been the reports that GA "phones home" to Microsoft in perpetuity, even after it has done the first validation of my MS products.  I understand that GA was contacting Microsoft every day in the first version of GA, which was scaled back to once every two weeks after great public outcry.  I saw a report that this biweekly reporting was going to be ended as well, but cannot find confirmation of that actually occurring.  So I have the following questions:

    1. If I install the current version of GA (KB892130) will it periodically contact Microsoft?

    2. If yes, with what frequency and/or after what events?

    3. If yes, how does Microsoft spin this as being of any "advantage" to me, hijacking my computer to send information about me to them on a periodic basis?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.
