  • Hi,

Silverlight  forums and MSDN Forums have different system of points calculations.

Silverlight Forums points  was NOT MIGRATED.

Only posts and posts status was migrated.

After migration, all users was granted points based on MSDN Forums points calculation system.

    Sorry for confusion.

  • It would be good to get an update on how long the conversion is expected to take. The 25 points I already have on this forum are lonely.

  • Mara, I understand that there would be a switch to a different point system, the issue is that my account was NOT granted points based on the MSDN Forums points calculation system. The 510 points I currently have are all from my activity since the forums were moved.

Bunty_K, the Silverlight forums granted points for just posting, the MSDN forums don't. Of your 61 points, how many were granted for having a post marked as the answer to a question?

could you please confirm that you have your Posts/Answers migrated but no points granted for migrated Answers and no Activities shows for them ?

I am looking into logs for the points replay and will reply here if I found any explanation.

  • My profile page shows that here on MSDN I had 25 points (+5 whatever that means) before the conversion. The profile page also shows that I have 31 answers, 13 helpful posts, and 91 replies. My activity log seems to go back to when the forum was converted and has no history before then.

My primary forum is the WCF RIA Services forum (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/silverlightwcf/threads) which I have been answering questions in since it went online. There are 7,745 answered questions in that forum, I am not sure what percentage of that has my name attached to it.

Looks like you had at least 3212 points on the Silverlight forum with 682 posts so a large number of those points must have come from marked answers.

  • Hi Forum Test Team,

I've lost about 6000 points ! As a MVP my participation in forums is something important, my renewal is for the January session. I really kindly insist to get all my points back in the next days.

Migration error are always possible and it is not a crime of course. I don't want to blame anyone here, I want this to be clear.

But now you're knowing the problem please recompute and give us our points back...

    Many thanks in advance.

Did the conversion process actually work for anybody?

I recognise the good people in this thread from the old forums and we are all in the top 100 contributors as far as I remember...

  • Unfortunately no progress, and I will say no answer nor any action...

There is a big problem with the way this forum is managed. A bit more of attention to all of us, the top 100 contributors, will be the bare minimum...

  • You may try to send e-mail to EdPrice at microsoft  and also to fissues at microsoft but there is no guarantee the problems will be fixed :(

Say, last 4 days I keep complaining about terrible performance of the forums, I can not do my work as a moderator (Merge or Change Thread type do not work for me) and nothing has been done so far (at least nothing I can see). I also do not receive answers on my e-mails.

So, looks like we can only went frustration here...

BTW, Mara marked her response as an answer, but really this thread is not answered as the problem is not solved!

I wouldn't say there has been no answer, Mara said a week ago today that they did find an error in the conversion process and they are working on a fix for the Silverlight forums.

  • Well, that's a point of view, but Mara said something that still have no effect and nobody came to give us some news. The problem is still there and nothing has changed...

So I agree with Naomi, marking this thread as answered is a scam.

Naomi, as a moderator, can you suppress the "marked as answered" on this thread ?

Objectivity and sense of reality require it, I think.

Since the problem is always there, the thread has not to be marked as answered.

Perhaps the forum team is doing a lot of efforts behind the scene, and I hope it, but as I said it, the bare minimum is to give us some feedback, and not cheating marking the thread as "answered"...

  • I am not a moderator in this forum and I also have been advised to not change mark if it's done by another moderator under the risk of losing my moderator rights. So, now I only unmark answers in the threads I started myself if I prefer to keep the question opened. The OP of this thread can unmark that answer, though.

  • I agree with the "this thread shouldn't have been marked as answered". I was much more furious when my thread was merged with this one and Hasham Niaz's "Use the send us feedback link" was marked as the answer.

I was just making sure that Mara's post where it was admitted that there was a problem hadn't been missed by you. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell the OP Bunty_K's question really was answered and I am no longer the OP on my own question since Hasham merged my question into this one.

    Hi Everyone !

    Since there are lot of questions raised, comments made about the way Moderation is done in this Forum, so now i have to answer to those concerns;

    1) Why i merged 'Colin Blair' question regarding Silverlight Forum Points with 'Bunty_K' question regarding loosing Silverlight Forum Points.

Response : Both threads are similar, asking same question regarding loosing points after Silverlight Forum got merged with MSDN Forums. So Merging thread rule is applicable in this scenario.

    2) People complaining about the points lost can potentially effect their MVP nomination process.

Response : Since this Forum doesn't pertain to MVP related issues but i understand the concern raised here, so i suggested you guys to open a support ticket yourself completely describing the issue.

    To open a support ticket directly please follow these link;

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/thread/416b1315-31b2-43e0-8806-d43fbf287076

    Or you can directly open a support ticket by clicking the links below;

    Support Ticket Option 1:https://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/mailform/contactus.aspx?refurl=http%3a%2f%2fsocial.microsoft.com%2fForums%2fen-US%2freportabug%2fthreads

    Support Ticket Option 2:https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;en;1432&ws=Forums-Tech&wa=wsignin1.0

Once you obtain a support ticket number you can follow it up here. Please include all necessary information in your email pertaining how many post your have out of which how many marked as answers and how many of those are helpful.

We can only log a general ticket which has already been logged and confirmed by Mara.

    3) The way Moderation is done in this Forum.

Response : Now this is pretty spacious allegation. You may disagree with respect to only this thread but not about all the threads that have been answered in this Forum. If you have any other examples of bad Moderation in this Forum, please let us know about it and also provide the number of mistake we made here and whats the percentage of it with respect to total posts in this Forum.

    4) Threats of Loosing Moderator rights

Response : There is no such threat, the advise has just given to not create any conflicts between Moderators and to respect each other opinion / judgement. If someone has issue they can discuss it before 'Unmarking' Answers. And this has been given to all Moderators.

@Naomi, if you are referencing to my email regarding your 'Moderation Nomination' declined, that was totally confidential and i shared that to you and i expect you to not bring it up here.

I respect everyone who have contribute in MSDN, TechNet & Expression Forums or in any other Forums in any way  even if they asked a question. Please understand there are 2 separate kind of Moderators here, one Community Moderator who work here as "Volunteer" and other are MSFT Moderators who are paid employees of Microsoft.

Please don't be over judgmental when commenting about Moderation behavior in general. We all are here to help other community members and provide better understanding to each other.

Everyone can make mistake but consider the percentage of error not just the count. And in this whole thread there is no mistake other than Mara should not Marked this thread as answer although she is following up with this.

Hope you have read the complete post and thanks for your time & patience.

    Thanks, Hasham Niaz

  • Hi Hasham,

No, I was referring to different email conversations we had with Ed and this was not related to the email you sent me.

I think you're doing a very good job in moderating this forum and I would have merged these two threads myself as they were on the same topic. It's a bit unfortunate that Mara has marked this thread as answered, but she can unmark it herself or OP can unmark it since the problem is not yet solved.

  • Sorry Hasham, let me put my fury into perspective.

With very little notice Silverlight.NET was bulldozed and our forums were dropped into MSDN way down at the end of the list of forums, well under the archived forums that aren't supposed to be posted in anymore. All links to threads were broken making it difficult to use old forums posts that refer to other forum posts. Google, Bing, and the forum search are just now starting to return results for the new forums instead of the old forums. To this day nobody from Microsoft has offered an explanation on why this happened or offered an apology for the month where it was impossible to find Silverlight help on the internet because all of the search engines just returned broken links.

The Silverlight community has been treated like Microsoft doesn't want us around and the one time I moved out of the Silverlight forums to ask what is going on I am told not to ask the question here, go use our Feedback Page like you can't even stand to have us Silverlight people cluttering up your nice Silverlight free forums.

Please understand, I am not saying that is what you meant, but it sure felt like it at the time. So yes, I was extremely furious.

EDIT: Forgot to say I apologize for dumping any of that emotion on your Hasham, I know you had nothing to do with what happened to Silverlight .NET and you did nothing wrong with your moderation.
