Turn off auto sort in windows 7 explorer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've had a windows 7 machine since 7 came out (64 bit). But most of my clients stuck with XP for so long I'm only now getting around to really using it. I'm finding a few things (mostly related to windows explorer) very annoying. Does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the automatic sorting of new files into a list? For example, I'm in a folder in explorer. There are a bunch of files in it. I create a new file in the folder (or a new folder for that matter). Windows automatically stuffs it into the appropriate spot in the list when sorted by name. In XP and earlier, it didn't do that. It just put it at the bottom. Then it was easier to find initially. This business of sorting it into the group right off the bat is frustrating when you have a huge bunch of files in a folder. I'm guessing there's no way to do this but it sure would be nice. note that I'm not asking to turn off sorting, just to stop windows from wedging the new file into the sort when it's first created or put into the folder.
