KB905474 (WGA Notification Tool) no longer offered via WU/MU/AU - why? Permanently? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm sorry if the question has been asked and answered previously, but I couldn't find the info yet.

Since early October 2006, the famous KB905474 (WGA Notification Tool) obviously is no longer offered to machines via Windows/Microsoft/Auto Update (at least for German Windows XP SP2 systems). I wonder, whether that's related to the server issues which occured at around the same time.

So the question is, why in fact KB905474 isn't offered any longer and if that's a permanent change.

    Thanks,
    Freudi

  • There was/is a classaction lawsuit because the wga reported to microsoft once a day or more. Microsft reportedly changed it to report once every 2 days.
Even with the adjusted reporting timeframe, it was deamed as spywear..  Yes, even if unintentional, just like free speach,
software that reports back to supplyer without user notification is spyware.
