Microsoft's Beta Site seems more greared toward XP and Vista. Has anyone installed and used it with WHS? If so, what has been your experience?Tuesday, September 29, 2009 3:50 PM

If you're talking about installing on Windows Home Server, I doubt that MSE will be supported on Windows Home Server. If you're talking about installing on your clients, I would expect that you'll have no real issues.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Marked as answer by JRDEEZ Tuesday, September 29, 2009 4:52 PM

Ken:
Thank you for your thoughts. My clients do have malware protection.
I was hoping that the seemingly decent and free new Microsoft malware protection product would be usable and supported for use on WHS servers. I will watch the evolution of the product to see if support is extended.

Over on the Microsoft Answers site (which I reached in a logical fashion from the Microsoft Security Essentials minisite), I find this thread.

Ken:
Thanks again for your interest. In fact, it is exactly that site, that caused me to ask the question. I am using a free-for-awhile version of Avast Antivirus for WHS. I am not sure of the cost when the "Free"period is over. The reason for my Microsoft Security Essentials interest is that my immediate family has all grown and moved away and I have given them Web acccess to my WHS. Given that they are logging on and I cannot control their antivirus up-keep on their machines, I was hoping that the MSE product would work on my server.
It is interesting in researching drivers for my high-end home built WHS server that drivers for some hardware devices showing Server 2003, NT and XP compatibility work just fine on my WHS environment. At some point I may try an MSE installation on my Home Server; but I do not have any preconceived notions that it will work.
But as examples of success, a Tripp-Lite UPS I use, has some monitor and notification software that is compatible with MS Server 2003. I was able to have it function on WHS but not without the installation of Server 2003 - NT, XP compatible Java(TM) (not documented even by Tripp-Lite Support). It was a little tempromental at first but now seems to work very well. Additionally, my motherboard provider assured me that the NT/XP drivers for the Asus NVIDIA ethernet and video chipsets would work with WSH and they do with out any problems.
Best Wishes,
