Federation with OCS 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Has anyone setup federation with OCS 2007? I am looking to see if it is possible and if so is there documentation of how to go about getting this setup.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Yes, it is very possible and there is lots of documentation on how to set it up. You will need an Access Edge server and will need a public certificate.

  • Federation is a fairly simplistic setup, configured on the Edge server - if you allow open federation your partners are located via DNS SRV records; explicit federated parties point to a particular Edge server.

For the certificates, the key is both sides must trust the root certificate; so for testing purposes, if you do not want tp pay for a public cert, simply exchange root certificates with one another and install them on each edge server that may participate in the federation. As a side note, this will not work with the PIC (public IM including AOL, ICQ, Yahoo, and MSN) because you would require the external companies to install your certificate (something they just don't seem to want to do!! • Hi Mike Little,

Here is a link to the Public Beta documents:

You will need to start with the deploying an edge server.

Let us know how your deployment goes.
