Hyper V - New VM on Windows 7 via Windows MMC RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

I am hoping you can help me, I have just installed Hyper V Server R2 on a 64bit Server. done all the necesary config and then installed the MMC Snap In Console on a 32bit Windows 7 Machine.

I mapped a drive using a NET USE command on the Hyper V server to where i had the VHD for a Windows Server 2008 R2 Environment and then using XCOPY copied the VHD Locally to the server.

I have pointed the MMC Console to look at the Hyper V Server which is working fine but when i try to create a new VM and point it to Use the VHD on i put on the Hyper V Server i get the following error message.

"Error: A Virtual Disk Support Provider for The Specified File Was Not Found" & "Failed to Add Device" along with the wirtual machine ID.

I then tried to create a new New VHD insted of pointing the new VM to the one on the Hyper V server and i still get the same problem??

Any ideas? i have checked permissions and all seems to be fine.
