My message text box has shrunk down to about a one line space when I reply to or  fowatdd  a message that I recieve. I cannot read or reference what was written to me unless I scroll down line by line. I have asked hotmail help for help and they keep senidng me lengthy lists of how to replair this and none of their suggestions work. Has anyone ever had this probelm? If so, how can I repair it ASAP?

  • You're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare.

I recommend that you continue your dialog with support. The following may help, but it is a shot in the dark, as I don't know what is causing your problem. I tried both the classic and full versions of Windows Live Hotmail and the Forward and Reply panels are the full size of the window with the folder list along the left. I don't know what you are seeing or why as this frame can't be resized except by resizing the entire browser window.

Assuming that you are using Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools/internet options and advanced. Then, select the option to reset Internet Explorer to defaults.

  • I know I am off topic too...but I have the same problem and have not been able to rectify it - tried the moderator's suggestion to reset defaults - no luck.  If there is another forum on this or if the answer has now been found, I would really, really appreciate it if someone could let me know. (I have also enquired with Hotmail Help, but I did not hear anything back...)  Thanks so much... this is quite irritating !

  • Hi, GizzMom.

I'm a bit stymied by the problem. What web browser are you using? Have you deleted temporary Internet files in your browser? A similar display problem was corrected for some using the reset to defaults in IE7 on the advanced tab in Internet Options, so I'm not sure why your problem was not corrected that way if you are using IE7.

I would recommend contacting support once again - http://support.live.com - select Windows Live Hotmail from the list. They will typically respond within 24 hours. Be sure to check your junk or spam folders.

  • Hi Steve.. thanks for the quick reply... I deleted all of my temporary Internet files and again reset the defaults...but still cannot get the reply/forward box to expand. However, I am on IE6 and perhaps that is the problem... ???  I will also try to get an answer from Support...really appreciate you taking the time to address this !

  • You're welcome. I hope that support can resolve the issue for you. Sorry that the problem persists for you after clearing out the cookies and temporary Internet files. I just looked at my Hotmail account on a machine still using IE6 and I can't replicate your problem at all. When I am reading a message and click reply or forward, the composing pane takes up 2/3 or more of the web page and there is no way to resize it up or down. My display is the same on an IE7 machine. A list of folders on the left with a bar that can be dragged a little bit left or right to resize the folder list, but that bar cannot be dragged so far right as to obscure the compose frame. The top of the window contains the toolbar for Hotmail and the Windows Live menu bar above that. I'd sure be interested in reading what the solution is when Support gets back to you.

In the meantime, have you considered downloading and installing Windows Live Mail? It is a free email client that allows you to access your Hotmail account (and other email accounts). http://get.live.com for more information and to download and install it.

  • No... I was not able to fix it - I am just living with it, very unhappily.  I have requested "help" numerous times, as well, with no response... good luck !
