Can't validate - Validation says not XP not activated but it IS! RRS feed

  • Question

  • After reloading XP Home for a new drive AND activating it online as usual, the validation check fails. MS tech says its 'cos my XP needs to be activated despite if one clicks on 'Activate product' I get the message "Already activated".

The WGA tech refers me to the activation team who refer me back to the WGA tech.

  • Try the following:

    1. Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".

    2. Go to Start > Run and type:  %systemroot%\system32

    then press the Enter key.

    3. Locate these two files: wpa.dbl and wpa.bak

    4. Rename the wpa.dbl file to wpaold.dbl and wpa.bak to wpaold.bak

    5. Reboot your computer into Normal mode.

This will force activation on the following boot, but should remove the message that you are already activated message. Sometimes if these files get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.

  • This 'unable to validate' problem has now ocurred twice. Both times it has cleared itself sometime after I ran the WGA diagnostic test. When I say 'sometime' I mean 15 to 30 miutes after the test ended - not immediately. I reported this to Microsoft but have heard no more from them.
