  • Firstly, Windows > Linux > Mac.

Secondly, the best OS is Windows Server 2008 but of course regular consumers won't be using it. So Vista is the best OS for regular users. Although, theres no harm using Server 2k8 as your default OS.

People keep complaining about Vista being slow, resource intensive, etc. Sure, it does use more resources than XP but I run my Vista with SP1 + all Windows Updates and it's just as fast as XP (with a little tweaking). My only complain about Vista is that I can't hibernate or sleep as there are some issues with the latest Nvidia 8 series cards.

Linux is a complete mess. I have tried literally all popular distros (my friends forced me to use it for a week - they are open source fan boys). Linux, or more specifically Ubuntu, reduced my productivity by atleast 200% with its confusing and uninituitive interfaces and buggy software. Also, now that Windows + IIS is catching up in the server market, theres absolutely no reason to go with *nix.
