Cannot connect to Windows 7 home computer via remote desktop VAIL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok here is my dilemma, before on WHSv1 I could remote access my windows 7 computer from my laptop which runs Windows XP Pro. I decided to try out vail and everything is fine so far except that I can no longer remote desktop from any XP based machine. I can still remote into it fine via a Windows 7 client but Windows XP is no go, I am getting this error message: An error occurred while sending data to the remote desktop gateway server. The server is temporarily unavailable or a network connection is down. Contact your network administrator for assistance.

I am not sure what the issue is since I can remote fine from windows 7 clients. Any ideas? cause I am all out!

  • Yea I did that also, but to no avail. I been digging around to find any other possible issues nothing yet.
Did you follow KB951608 exactly as it says (making 2 registry edits on the remote XP client, then rebooting the XP client)?  I had what sounds like the exact same issue.

  • If you have not yet done so, you may need to install this.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Kin,

Have you tried enabling CredSSP per the KB article Ken linked to? Check the Known issues section for more information.

  • In the spirit of helping out I logged in with my Wife's XP Home laptop, got in without issue.  You logging in as administrator?  Can you network to your server files via your xp machines?

  • I also tried to duplicate the issue.  Fired up my XP Home laptop and can RDP into Win7 with Vail Client Software installed and had no problem

I assume Kin means accessing his server or clients through the RA website from a remote XP client (whereas it sounds like you are talking about within your LAN).

  • Yes kariya21 thats the issue I am having, I seemed to have figured it out on the wired end but this issue occurs if you try to remote desktop via a wireless connection so Im not aware that it couldnt be done? Does anyone else have this issue at all? Try to remote desktop using a wireless connection. I even went to assume something was wrong with my XP OS so I installed 7 to test it and still same issue cause I was on a wireless connection, however if I plugged into a wired connection, I had no issues. Still kinda floating that I couldn't connect via a wireless connection. Anyone else had this issue?

Kariya21 yes I did those registry edits in XP but it didnt work. (Wireless connection)

My other computers running Windows 7 have NLA turned off, this issue was specific to XP RDP to a client from website interface. The rest of the server works fine I can see my files etc accessmy other clients from wired connections but the issue now boils down to wireless RDP

Nm figured it out, turns out I forgot to edit an entry in the registry when I thought I had. This issue is solved and I wanted to thank you guys for your help and trying to duplicate my issue as well as the tips! I really apreciated this, it was drivng me nuts!
