"Invalid key" when accessing Vista Picture Manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased my computer with Vista Home Premium preinstalled.  I have activated the program and verified that it is a genuine version of Vista etc.      Upon using the Microsoft Office Picture Manager feature of the program, it prompts me to enter my product key.

I obtained the key from the sticker on the computer.  I have entered it several times, but it keeps telling me that it is invalid and to try again.    (I initially thought maybe my system wasn't activated, I used the slui.exe 4 option.  I did talk directly with someone from Microsoft regarding my activation to make sure it was OK.  He had me enter the same product key I am now trying to use to actitvate the picture manger feature).

Not sure what I am doing wrong or is Picture Manager only a "trial" option with Vista and then you have to purchase the program?  Lost!!!

Contacted Acer and they said that I should not have to enter product activation keys to gain access.  What's correct?

My diagnostic report is as follows:

  • Hi dallas34,

Vista and Office are two different products.

Your Vista is Genuine with no Activation or Validation issues, but your copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 is a Trial Version.

Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office in the computers they build.  If you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when opening a Microsoft Office program, it is likely the trial period is over and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office.

    Please review the following:
