Windows 7 not Authentic RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am not a computer whiz even though I use one quite extensively in my work and leisure time. I recently purchased a Dell 1545 on E-bay which was listed by a pawn shop. First problem was that the computer came with none of the original installation disks. Second, the original owner had himself listed as administrator and was password protected. I got some software that allowed me to become administrator of the computer and change all passwords; however after a short period my computer started indicating that the copy of windows 7 home edition was not authentic. I checked the system folder and on about windows 7, I found that the original owner (Quincy) had registered the software and am wondering if changing myself to the administrator triggered something that made it seem that what I have is an unauthorized copy? gething@win-4-u.net

  • Windows Product Key: *****-*****-74XYM-BH4JX-XM76F

    License Status: Notification
Notification Reason: 0xC004F009 (grace time expired).

The product key in use is the default key. This is the key windows enters when a key is not entered during install. It can not be activated.

You will have to enter a legitimate windows 7 home premium product key from your COA, which should be in your battery compartment.

    click start

    right click computer

    select properties

scroll to the bottom of the page and select change product key

You may have to activate by phone

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4

    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

    5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

  • First thing you need to do is perform a  Ownership Transfer and then Request Dell Backup Discs, then reformat the hard drive and reinstall the Windows operating system.

  • Registration only registers the user as a Microsoft customer.  It has nothing to do with the software.  Windows software is activated.  Activation doesn't have anything to do with users or administrators.  Registration and activation have nothing whatsoever to do with each other.  That is by design.

If you wish assistance here please observe announcement 1 above.

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in your own thread.

  • So if I have the product codes which I just found inside my battery compartment I can validate the software with no Problems?? Or, will the system recognize that the activation code has been used before and think that someone is trying to pirate the software?
P.S. I don't find any announcement 1 above?? Is it on the home page??

Your diagnostic report is from a Hewlett Packard computer.

The diagnostic report from the HP shows no issues. If you actually purchased a Dell 1545 we need the report from it.
