Windows copy noy genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought a HP laptop from Microsoft in Nov 2010. And now suddenly a few weeks ago my Window7 system started showing a message that my windows was not genuine. It has also been unable to setup any updates. Is there a way we can resolve this issue?

I am also including the diagnostic report here. Thanks.

There appears to be some registry corruption causing a problem still.
please run the following commands in a Command Prompt window

    ICACLS c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll
    ICACLS c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll.mui

copy and paste the results in your response
This may show us what the problem is.

  • Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slcext.dll|slcext.dll.mui

    1. Click the Start Orb & type cmd.exe into the search menu.

    2. Right click it & run as administrator.

    3. Type the following command: sfc /scannow & hit enter.

Wait for the process to finish once it is done. Reboot the system. Repost another MGADiag Report.

  • Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007

This is a volume license version of Office.  Unless issued by the owning enterprise you should remove it.  That, by itself, is not a cause of a Windows non-genuine notice.

    ICACLS c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll
    ICACLS c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll.mui

  • Sorry, the issue isn't resolved yet. I was just away for a week.

Here is what I got after processing the commands that Noel suggested

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32>icacls c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll
    c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller:(F)
                                   BUILTIN\Administrators:(RX)
                                   NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(RX)
                                   BUILTIN\Users:(RX)

Successfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files

    C:\Windows\system32>icacls c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll.mui
c:\windows\system32\slcext.dll.mui: The system cannot find the file specified.
Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 1 files

    C:\Windows\system32>

Is there a way I can replace slcext.dll if that is causing all the problems? Thanks.

I was trying to find out whether the file itself was damaged, or what – it appears that it is not.
I did however, get the second command wrong so we’s better try that one again.
    It should be
    icacls c:\windows\system32\En-US\slcext.dll.mui
    Sorry about that!
