unable to fully intall the connector from whs2011 on W7 x64 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have setup a whs 2011 server and I was able to run the connector from two PCs under W7 32b. but I am unable to fully run the connectorsoftware from a W7 64:

the program start normally, said that it can take 30 minutes, ask for the server password then after several seconds an error message appears saying that an "unexpected error occurs.

how to solve the problem? Of course I look through the three logs files and one was mentionning some failed tasks but nothing on the client is clear about that!

  • I got a solution : a stupid one but right now it is working!!

I have erased the previous installation of my WHS 2011 and start again the installation. But this time, the first connection to this server  (in order to finish the installation) was made from my Windows 7 x64 machine.

At the end that machine was correctly connected to the server and ready for the backup software. Then the connector for my other machines under windows 7 x32 came also without any problem....

the only big difference when I look through the system parameters after this successful installation is on the list of certificates: only valid certifcates are visibles, none is visible in the other folders.

  • You have few options here. I had some problems installing on one machine and lately to reinstall, which finally completed after too many attempts!

1- Try to reboot the client you're installing the connector on.

2- You can use a tool called "FindMyServer".

3- RDP to the server, navigate to C:\Programs\Windows Server\bin\WebApps\Client\Package\en and copy Computerconnector on your client's desktop. Run the application from there. (This one worked for me the first time after many useless tries of different solutions found across all forums)

4- Let me know which worked for you or none

  • Thanks for your reply but non of the solutions were working!!

1 & 3 gave the same error at the end : "unexpected....." and so on

2 Findmyserver found my server and shoed me the web page with the download option of the connector!

by looking at the three log files the only visible "answer" about the "unexpected error" is from clientdeploy.log :

    "[2596] 111101.231532.1722: ClientSetup: Call MachineIdentityManager.GetMachineStatus

I don't know where to look for a solution: my local DNS associated already my server name to the right IP address and the http://myserver/ gave the corret web page, I can also see the shared folder and do a RDP to the server; So Help!!!
