I need a 2-year subscription, instead of just a 1-year one. Buying online does not seem to give that option. How can I get this option, or is it even available?Friday, April 10, 2009 1:10 PM

It is not available. OneCare is an end of life product right now. You can purchase a new subscription or renew an existing one through some time in the 2nd half of this year. Renewals and new subscriptions will no longer be available by the end of this year. Support for OneCare will end at the end of 2010. Existing subscribers will be offered a transition to Morro, an antivirus/antispyware product that has not yet even gone to public beta, which will be free. It will not contain the extended features of OneCare - backup, enhanced firewall, wifi security, Circle, Tune-up.

____, seriously?? I never even knew of this OneCare from Windows LIVE until recently.. never saw it or heard of it before. It was on sale at Staples, so I got one.. I downloaded and installed from the website, using the free trial time.. and I haven't yet opened the box from the one I purchased at Staples. Now I wonder if I should return this back to Staples.. ?
And, now I really don't know which Anti-Virus software to go with. I was with Webroot before, but they started really lacking in customer support.. so when my year ended with them, I let it.. then went with PC Tools.. which was good but seemed to cause both of my computers problems.. so I cancelled that and got my money back from them (30-day money back guarantee).
Norton is major ____.. McAfee really causes problems.. so now I really don't know what to use.
So far I was really liking OneCare. Are you sure that it's going to be non existant by the end of next year?? and how do you know this?
If you don't mind providing me the resource(s) of where you found that information, I'd really appreciate it.
Also, if you have any other suggestions/recommendations for Antivirus/spyware protection software (preferrably an all-in-one), that would also be helpful and appreciated.
Please let me know, thank you!

typative, Read the Announcement 11/18/08 post at the top of this forum.

You'll see that the anti-malware protection portion of OneCare will be free, it just won't include the other features like backup. All-in-one is a confusing term, since this will be a complete anti-malware protection. It should be even less resource intensive than OneCare, so I'd just wait for it to release later this year.

Wow.. thank you. And what I meant by "all in one" was really antivirus, anti-spyware, etc.. any/all security threats, not so much the backup.. but I do love how the OneCare also performs the tune-up, which includes disk defrag. This is a real bummer that Live OneCare is being discontinued. I'm really loving this software. I think it's perfect.
I originally came to these forums to ask something, then discovered that news/information.
I was curious, if/until you purchase a subscription with OneCare, will it really detect anything? If there are any threats actually on the computer that is.. so far, it's never detected any threats or anything. I'm hoping that's true/accurate. I just also wonder though if maybe I do have any threats, but OneCare won't really detect them unless I pay for the subscription.. know what I mean?
Being that it is going to be discontinued, I will return the software back to Staples, as it's still sealed/unopened. I hope there's a way to be e-mailed/notified of when the new product or whatever will be out/released. Is there such thing set up? Or would I just have to keep checking these websites every/so often?
Thanks again for your help and the information you provided OneCareBear. Please also let me know on the other things I asked, if you don't mind.
Thank you!

If you got your copy at Staples for a good price, you can use the key to activate a 1 year subscription. As for the release of Morro, I am quite sure that it will be announced widely when it is available for beta testing and then when it is released. It will at least be announced here in the forum when we learn more details.

typative,
I'll also add that if you are subscribed to OneCare, you will be notified When Morro becomes available and would liekly even receive help from Support with switching when the time comes.
Since you'll need something until Morro releases anyway, and already have it working quite well, it's foolish to try intalling anything else until that time. It's also not known exactly when Morro will release, just '2nd half of 2009', so you can keep using OneCare until it's available and then convenient for you to make the switch, even early next year if you prefer.
