Installation of updates has been random and intermittent since April 09. The majority of the updates would not install giving an error: “A problem on your computer is preventing updates form being downloaded or installed”. I had 37 outstanding updates that had been downloaded but not installed.
My solution to the problem is as follows.
I went to “Review Update History” in windows update and scrolled back to when the updates seemed to stop installing correctly. For me this was about Apr 09. I then noted what update had been unsuccessful to install, in my case KB960803. I went to MS Download Centre and downloaded and installed this update. Restarted the computer and then went back to the update centre and tried again. The remaining 36 updates installed successfully after this.
I hope this is of help to someone suffering the same problems.
