this is suppose to be oem not retail
There is the problem. OEM Product Keys will not work in Retail software. The XP software currently being used is showing as Retail.
Thank you,

Hello bashing,
Look on the computer itself, in the documentation you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). If you have one, tell us about the COA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key that may be printed on the CoA.
Not sure what to look for? See this page for reference: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.ms

Hello bashing,
Did the CD you received along with the CoA do the installation of XP that is now on the computer?
This is the Product key currently installed: MMKVV-TFCF8-4CDCY. Is this also printed on the CoA?
Does the CD have "For distribution with a new PC only. For support, contact the manufacturer of your PC." printed in the hologram in the upper left quadrant of the CD?
Navigate to the setupp.ini file located in the \i386 folder. This is a small text file with two sections. Please post the contents of the second section.

Yes cd does have "for distribution with new pc only
I built the pc myself
I can not find the i386 folder with setupp.ini i run a search on pc and it does not show upFriday, October 2, 2009 9:30 PM -
Hello bashing,
The setupp.ini file is on the CD...sorry for any confusion :-)
Also, one more thing to check on the CD: is the hologram a very thin label attached to the top surface of the CD or is it embedded within the plastic of the CD?

Hello bashing,
Please go to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button.
I have run your Diagnostic Report and the Product Key currently being used in your Windows is Valid and was successfully Activated on 10/01/09 on three different Hardware Configurations (either 3 different computers or 1 computer that had it's hardware changed three different times).
Thank you,

it will activate but will not validateFriday, October 2, 2009 9:49 PM -
Hello bashing,
"Hologram does not appear to be embeaded on cd"
The Product Key appears to be Genuine, but that software does not. Retail software would have a Hologram embeadded.
Where did you get this software?
"it will activate but will not validate"
When you click the Validate Windows button and the results are Non-Genuine, the page will have a number (possibly light gray in the lower part of the screen...may need to scroll down) that looks similare to this [0xC004C307]. Would post that number as well.
Thank you,
