SharePoint Developer Training Help/Advice Needed

Question
-
I am the SharePoint farm admin for my organization. We used to have a SharePoint developer, but he moved on to greener pastures. Because I am the farm admin my management agreed to send me to SharePoint developer classes.
I am a server admin, not a developer. I do a bit of scripting, but no real code writing. I need some advice on where to start. I know I need to work through .NEt and ASP.NET, but what about pre-reqs for those? Can someone advise me on a good training path? I have some VB and C# experience from my college days, but not much since.
Also, any training suggestions for the Seattle/Bellevue metro areas?
Thanks for your help!

I am also learning SP 2010 now, I am a BI Consultant. I used "Sharepoint 2010 Developer Training Kit".

Hi,Whether or not you get certified is a personal decision, but I wouldrecommend the training path/self paced material for the MCPD based oneither the ASP.Net developer (recommended over the EA developer as theWindows forms development may not be as useful) or the EnterpriseApplication Developerhttp://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcpd.aspx#tab2Depending on the Sharepoint version, you can customize this search further,http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=developing+sharepoint+web+parts+site%3Amicrosoft.com&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=e23af314d8a6ecd6

I would agree with Mike. You need to get your hands dirty with ASP.net first.
Check this link, this is a great place to start: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/resources/Pages/Developer-Training-Guide.aspx
Hope this is helpful.
