  • Hello thecowe,

You are correct, Office Genuine Advantage ignores Office versions earlier than Office XP, so Office 2000, 97 and 95 are ignored.

The mgadiag utility is not programmed to report on these earlier versions, too.  Note that as far as the report is concerned, there is no Office installed on your computer, because it is earlier than Office XP:

  • Just to be clear, you are still licensed to use the Office 2000.

There is no problem with you using the software, it's just that Microsoft doesn't check for the Genuine status of Offices that came out before Office XP, just as Microsoft doesn't check the Genuine status for any Windows before XP.

    Thank you,

  • Darin,

Because of this old application,  a validation error in MS Essentials wich will negate function of security essentials.  Is there a work arround?

    Kind of unfair?

  • Hello thecowe,

    Kind of off-topic.

Your issue revolves around the requirements for Microsoft Security Essentials, so please post your questions in the MSE forum here:  http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/mse

  • Hi thecowe,

No, MSE only checks the Genuine status of Windows, not Office. Since your XP Pro is showing as Genuine, you should have no problem.

    Thank you,
