Microsoft Dynamics CRM Import Tool

Question
-
Hello,
The company I work for just started using Microsoft CRM online and we are interested in using the CRM Import Tool found here: http://blogs.msdn.com/dynamicscrmonline/archive/2009/05/15/microsoft-dynamics-crm-import-tool-on-codeplex.aspx
I downloaded the tool and followed the instructions and when we run it and try to log in we receive this error:
"An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)"
I couldn't find any documentation about this online. Is there anything you think we might be doing wrong? I appreciate any help you can give.
Also, are there any other Import tools for CRM online that people use, that we should look into?
Thanks,

CRM Online has a built-in Import Tool that you can use. All you need to do is have the correct Security Role to use it. Here is a video for reference.

Will we be able to use the import tool to update data without replacing it though? If we have sales data, we want to be able to have a record of past data with the new data.Tuesday, January 12, 2010 2:59 PM

Yes, you will be able to update data by selecting the appropriate setting in the Import Wizard. I believe the option is to Enhance data when you are in the Import Wizard. I would test the process with one or two test records.

The built-in import manager doesn't support insert/updates. It will be necessary for you to use a third party tool.
At the risk of being somewhat self serving (but hopefully helpful to you) our company has a data import and migration product that will meet your requirements.
Data2CRM - http://crminnovation.com/data2crm.asp
You should also look at an import product sold by c360 - http://www.c360.com
Both products have free trials.

Donna,
I am curious where you are seeing this option in CRM Online.

With the Microsoft CRM Online R4 (November) release, the undocumented/unsupported enhance data option in Import Data Wizard is no longer accessible.
The option is to look for 3rd Party update tools that support Microsoft CRM Online (not just Microsoft CRM v4.0 On Premise). I know Scribe Software (http://www.scribesoft.com/microsoft-dynamics-crm.asp) offers one that does support CRM Online.
We also help our customers with our update program to read from files for Microsoft CRM Online that is focused on small business segment - contact us for details if you like, it maybe an option for you.Tuesday, January 12, 2010 6:10 PMModerator -

Hi
The newly updated Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online import tool is quite good. I used it myself to port over legacy data into a customized CRM project I did for a major financial institution in Canada.
Here is a blog article talking about some of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM built-in import tool's features and recent enhancements: http://blogs.msdn.com/crm/archive/2010/01/11/microsoft-dynamics-crm-automatic-customizations.aspx
If the built-in tool does not work for you I would go with a tried-and-true product that many organizations are using for data migration (yes, it does synchronization as well but you can purchase simply a data migration license): Scribe (http://www.scribesoft.com/microsoft-dynamics-crm.asp)

Hi
There is one more product you might like to consider.
Inaport from InaPlex (I am from InaPlex) is a full function CRM integration product for mid-market CRM systems. It supports Dynamics, SageCRM, Sage SalesLogx, ACT!, and GoldMine, and provides:
* powerful data transformation capabilities
* sophisticated matching, to prevent duplicates or allow proper updates of existing account/contacts
* a wide range of other management, logging, and error handling functions
Inaport works with CRM Online or on premise. We also provide professional services, from an hour of training through to a turnkey migration or integration.
Check out our web site (http://www.inaplex.com) or contact 'info at inaplex dot com' for more information.
We also have a blog post discussing Inaport versus Scribe:

Hi Dan
We have a ImportTool for Microsoft Dynamics CRM that works for on-premise, hosted and Microsoft Online solutions. It is very user friendly but you still have the opportunity to do very large and complex import / migrations. It can be found on www.crmextensions.com

Check CozyRoc SSIS+ library here. The library includes adapters for Dynamics CRM and many other useful components . It is based on the powerful SQL Server Integration Services platform, giving you the best flexibility on the market. The SSIS+ library license is very liberal and affordable.
