Error message states that multiple instances are open when this is not the case. User has no desire to upgrade to Outlook.
Attempts to repair have included:
Checking Task Manager for multiple instances
Virus/spyware/malware scan
Troubleshooting after a clean boot
Upgrade to Windows Live Mail
Deleting email database and reconstructing (this made it work for 2 days for the user, but the problem has resurfaced)
