  • I suspect that your PC rebooted and loaded the default windows profile as your profile was locked or unavailable. I assume also that you don't normally log in on the PC, but it starts right into Windows, which would be the reason for not noticing this situation other than the fact that none of your data and programs appeared to be available.

  • There aren't any One Care program updates available that I am aware of so I am going to assume One Care was requesting to install missing Windows Updates. To verify this go to Windows Update and view your update history. If updates were installed today then this is a Windows Update issue and you can get live support at the Microsoft Update Solution Center - http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport#tab0

If this is not a Windows Update issue I suggest contacting One Care support. How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

  • The problem I have and keep having is if I do updates it wants to download Service Pack 3 when I do One Care will not work, take out Sevice pack 3 One Care works. Whats up? I am tired of One Care telling me about the updates and I need virus protection.

Since XP SP3 is now classified as a critical update, you will need to update. I suggest updating to SP3, then reinstalling OneCare. OneCare *should* work fine on SP3. If it doesn't please contact support.

  • Thanks for the reply, I have tried that and it still will not work and it is not on just one but 2 differnet computers that it happens and of course Microsoft does not make it easy to contact direct.

  • Unofficial path, JimmiB - send me an email at sboots@mvps.org with a subject line including "OneCare" (to get past my spam filtering) and in the message body, tell me what country you are in, your forum nickname, and paste this link - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3714612&SiteID=2. I am not online 24x7, so you may be waiting for a reply, but I'll do my best to hook you up with support.
