Colletta screen off set issue random RRS feed

    Hi,

    I just installed Colletta on my laptop (Lenovo X220T, 1366x768, Windows 7 Pro x64). I have a couple of issues, but probably the same cause (?).

    The Colletta tool bar is not at the top of my Windows desktop, and it doesn't span across the entire width of my desktop either. I checked "Enable screen offset hack" as well to see if it makes any difference, but doesn't seem like it. The weird thing is that it did load once with the Colletta tool bar displayed correctly. So my guess is that this behavior is random. When I maximize my windows (Outlook as an example below), I see a gap between the top edge of my screen and the Outlook window. I'm guess this is because it thinks the Colletta tool bar is suppose to occupy the gap.

    Is there a fix that can be done?

    I've seen this on some machines, but not consistently - and the "screen offset hack" did seem to address it some of the time. It seems to happen more often when the machine is heavily loaded or otherwise slow - some race condition in the Project Colletta startup steps but I've not been able to track it down, I'm afraid.

    Something that does seem to snap the bar back to the right place (at least most of the time) is to lock (Win+L) and unlock the PC: bit of a clunky workaround, but best I have at the moment, sorry.

    Gavin,

    Thanks for the workaround and the quick response!!! I just tried it now and it works. I can now continue to use Colletta through out my day. :-) Is there an E-mail or place I can send my feedback on my experience with this tool?

    Why does Colletta always want to launch Outlook when it loads? I don't want to run Outlook everytime I log into my computer.

    Here is a good place for feedback (when you submit a "question" you could mark it as a discussion topic instead - that'll distinguish the feedback from the queries though that's not very important).

    Regarding Outlook: to be able to handle emails in Project Colletta, we need to have a hook into Outlook in the current implementation (and that's because I'm deliberately not duplicating metadata about objects being stored if I can - metadata about files come from the files themselves, that about emails come from the email tool). We discovered that if Project Colletta didn't ensure that Outlook was running "before" it started, you could get into a situation where Outlook was closed unexpectedly - eg, you'd open an email from Project Colletta but, as soon as you closed the window, Outlook would exit, which would also break the link between Project Colletta and Outlook. Our best "quick fix" for this was to make Outlook start up if it wasn't running already. It's on my todo list to have better detection of the Outlook connection disappearing and reinstate as required, but that's rather messy.

    Something we've contemplated is a non-Outlook version of the tool (eg, a checkbox which lets you totally disable Outlook access) but, of course, that's also still on my todo list. Having said that, our view of the typical Project Colletta user is someone who spends as much time in email as in files or on the web, so perhaps we want to encourage people to have Outlook running all the time!
