Fireplay

Anyone using Fireplay? I am finding that WHS is only backing up only a few of my songs from the many folders on my client. This answered my question as to why Fireplay wasn't showing them.
Now the obvious, why is WHS not backing up the music on my client machine? My structure is a folder called say "Men At Work- Business A Usual" and then all files listed in the folder.
I didn't know WHS wasn't doing this, I just assumed it was.Saturday, October 17, 2009 4:42 PM

This is more likely to be a Firefly issue than a Fireplay or Windows Home Server issue, I think. If you troll through the forums available on the firefly web site, you will find some general tips from the original author as to how to find these sorts of issues.

First, what kind of server do you have? OEM or self-built? What software have you installed on it? Add-ins (other than Fireplay, which we know about it)?
However, backing up your client computer will not move any media files into the server's shares. The backup database is completely separate. If you've got an HP with it's included media aggregator, it will copy files from certain folders to your server (I believe the Acer units have something similar), but if you keep your media in another location it won't be able to copy those files because it doesn't know about them.

I have the HP 485. There's a setting that specifies a few locations (they are checked) and one that says all folders (it's checked).
Here's my settings for Media Collector http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3728/mediacollector.jpg
I don't believe there's any conflicts. Also most of my media is in .mp3 but for anyone else who may read this isn't that all Fireplay will read is .mp3? Seems I read somewhere it wouldn't stream .wav or .wma

See the music structure in the server http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3169/hpservermusic.jpg
In the server the structure is BOB SEGER (folder) -->A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS (folder)-->THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY.MP3
In my client it's more simple (BOB EGER (folder) -->THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY.MP3
Can you copy music straight from the client to the HPSERVER --> MUSICSaturday, October 17, 2009 11:10 PM -

As long as your user account has the necessary permissions on the server, yes.

Actually the problem of only showing a few songs from each entire recording in their respective folders apparently is not limited to Fireplay but when I open Media Streamer from the WHS console I am seeing this to be true there also.
This seems to be a WHS issue. Maybe it's in the way it sorts?Monday, October 19, 2009 2:16 AM -

I think I used the word "backing up" in the wrong sense. WHS seems to be pulling the music from a folder I have on my client desktop. The problem is that out of 640 folders none of them on the WHS have all the songs. Most have two and at best three songs.
Any ideas?Monday, October 19, 2009 2:23 AM -
How long have you had the HP MediaCollector running? It can take several days to collect all your media - at least it did mine. If you look at the media collector, what does it show as the status for your client?Monday, October 19, 2009 2:38 AM

Not sure I can say why, but I had similar problems with Media Collector which seemed to be resolved when I uninstalled and reinstalled HP Mediasmart Server and Windows Home Server Connector on my clients.Monday, October 19, 2009 3:19 AM

Fireplay is still behaving wierdly. See the image below. The artist shown, The Lifters has 10 tracks in that folder but only shows three.

The media collector feature apparently got interrupted a while back but is working again effective last week. Anyone else having trouble with Fireplay?
Do you use Fireplay?Thursday, October 22, 2009 11:23 PM -
