Email Router or Exchange for CRM 2011 on-prem question

Question
-
Hi, we are hosting our server with a hosting company (as we don’t have dedicated hardware/staff). If so, how can we integrate CRM with our in-exchange server? I am doing this because users can send/receive, track email within CRM. User can either use IE to access CRM or can use Outlook to access CRM.
To authenticate user, Is Active Directory Synch with Exchange needed? Here the CRM is hosted and the exchange is in-house. What is the best way to authenticate CRM user in this situation?
Q2) Email router: Could I install this in the same server as CRM 2011 installed? How does this help in this context?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
i would suggest you the following:
If you are planning three servers then following specifications will be okay:
CRM Web Server : Processor Quad-core x64 architecture 2 GHz CPU
Memory: 6 GB , 8 GB recommended
CRM Database Server : Processor Quad-core x64 architecture 2 GHz CPU
Memory: 6 GB , 8 GB recommended
I would not purchase email router server and would preffer to merge this role with the database server and add 4 GB more memory so 10-12 GB of total database server memory.
CRM Email Router Server : Processor Quad-core x64 architecture 2 GHz CPU
Memory: 4 GB or more

ADFS Server Role
Active Directory Federation Services role comes with windows server 2008 and it is only a server role not a additonal server/application etc, it will be only required for if your users will access Outlook over internet. Outlook client can connect to CRM server over internet either by VPN connection or by CRM Internet Facing Deployment (IFD) which requries ADFS role.
If your users will access Dynamics CRM over web client only then you do not need Active Directory Federation Service Role.

Thanks Jamie, I am not sure if I need seperate physical servers for CRM, SQL, email Router and AD FS? Could you clarify that please? If so, what is the server hardware configuration to support 100 users from your experience? Highly value and appreciate your feedback. Thank you Jamie.Friday, August 19, 2011 5:40 PM
