  • Ok, here's a clue: someone replied to this on the TechNet side. A nonsense reply, but it sent me an alert. Clicking on the alert, I landed on the TechNet side, and had the option of applying a tag to this thread!

  • Ok, final clue for the day: I used HttpWatch to trace a CTRL-F5 of this page. I see that I'm being sent an "fwc" cookie that is not properly URL encoded. It has:

    fwc=n=John Saunders&i=false&m=True&ms=false&mt=True&muid=4423483b-67de-4227-a893-514e039d8f69&pl=0&eul=Trueexpires=Wed, 15-Oct-2008 13:39:35 GMT; path=/

    Note that should be a "+" sign to indicate a space.

    Could this have anything to do with it? I'd like tags back...

  • Hi John,

    We have temporarily disabled tagging on forums as we were having performance problems with our tagging infrastructure.  We have a new release of that architecture coming very soon and are working deligently to ensure it can handle heavy loads and scale for future use.  We're hoping to have it back on pretty soon, sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Thanks, Sam.

    This begs the question: did I miss the announcement?

  • Hi John, I wanted to follow up with you on this since I was responsible for customer messaging or the lack there of.  For this issue, we consciously decided not to post a broad announcement related to the tagging being turned off.  Part of this was to see if it made an impact on the site, and part of it was getting overloaded and not being able to get word out to you when you reported the issue.

    I'm sorry for the delay, and in the future we'll be announcing outages like this in advance where possible.

  • Jeremy, thanks for the reply.

    FYI, I am using the tagging system to categorize forum posts. For instance, I try to make sure all issues with Web Service interoperability with Java get tagged "java interop", and that WSE issues get tagged "wse". It helps me find those issues later when someone else has a similar issue.

    I hate to sound elitist, but if volume becomes an issue in the future, then you might temporarily restrict the feature to moderators, MVPs and Microsoft employees.

  • bump.

    I'm not seeing tags anymore, and that would be a great feature.  Oh - and it would be nice to see the dates of the posts in the search results.
