I do wish Microsoft would put ALL FORUMS under ONE MAIN url.

  • Right,

But I guess users can gather all needed forum under one private folder.

anyways, I feek like these forums and their design will one day change.

  • I understand John's frustation. I posted the following some time ago in the hope that someone would reply and tell me what I am not understanding but no replies so far.

Perhaps one of the moderators can explain for me.

I am confused by what appears to me to be duplication of forums under different names and the difficulty of finding the right forum relating to an issue. For example the following URL is for Microsoft Office Customization and Programming

    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officeprog/threads?prof=required

The following is for Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/isvvba/threads

The following is for Excel for Developers

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exceldev/threads

Surely the three of these forums deal with the same issues so why have 3 separate forums? It makes it difficult to decide which one to use for an issue and it also splits the people who provide answers if they do not monitor the multiple sites concerning the same issues and this in turn reduces the probability of getting the correct answer.

Currently the Home page of the forums is far too general for finding the right forum for an issue. Perhaps what is really required is a page where users can search for forums related to their questions. Something similar to the tree method that was used in the old News Groups whereby the users select Microsoft Office and it expands into the Office applications then select and application and it expands into the various forums dealing with the selected application.

  • Hi ALL,

I suppose this is the main one as it has each forum area listed? >>

    http://www.microsoft.com/communities/forums/default.mspx

so why does FORUMS HOME go here instead? >>

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories

  • There is also one thing that I do not understand or maybe I am unable to solve or understand alone by myself

I have the same account and the same Live ID at http://social.answers.microsoft.com

And I have some (points) there, but it seems these posts and points has nothing to do with my posts and points in social.microsoft.com

Did I do anything wrong or they are just two separated forums.

Regards to all who want and dare to improve current situation

  • Hi Hassan,

I don't think it has anything to do with what you have done. The same think has occurred with my Id.

Also when Microsoft closed the Community News Group and we had to then start using the Forums, I lost all of the points I had gained in the Community News Group even though I use the same Live Id.
