Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 License Options RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a question concerning Dynamics CRM 2011 License options. We are required to get MSDN premium subscriptions (which cost about $5000) for each developer and testers I our Developement, QA and UAT environment. We we have many developpers and testers so I am trying to find a cheaper option. I urgently have to come up with a better option than that Can sombody make a suggestion please?

    Thank you

  • You are correct that MSDN is a personal subscription, so if a developer uses an MSDN license to build a development environment then only the developer is licensed for that environment.

So it would be cheaper to buy some additional CRM server licenses and CALs. But each developer is going to need a Visual Studio license, and I'd recommend using TFS too. So you don't need Premium, but you're team members are going to need some sort of MSDN license. I'm surprised they don't already have one.

If you have an implementation team of 10 developers and 10 testers then it must be quite a large enterprise deployment and the licensing costs will be a small fraction of the overall project budget.

  • It depends on why you are required to get MSDN Premium subscriptions. Do you already have licenses for Visual Studio, Windows Server, SQL Server, Team Foundation Server, Office?

If you already have licenses for all the software licensed to you by Visual Studio except for Dynamics CRM, then it might be less expensive to purchase additional Dynamics CRM Server licenses.

  • We already had a MSDN Subscription than contains a key to install Dynamics on our DEV, QA and UAT but I was told that for each developper to acces these environments for development or testing purposes need to have a subscription meaning that if we have 10 dev and 10 testers we'll need 20 MSDN Premium subscription for $5000 each we I think is a LOT of money and a waste of licenses keys because all these 20 keys will expire at the same time.

  • We installed CRM with a trial license which is expiring soon and we are in the process of renewing an MSDN subscription ultimate that we had last year. As soon as we renew our MSDN subscription which will give us a key do we have to worry about additional licenses or subscription for other dev who already have visual studio licences and also do we need licenses for testers or additional users we might want to add in those lower environment. Since these are Dev, QA and UAT servers not PROD there should not be an issue with that approach right? Please correct me if I am wrong.
