Hardware Swap RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have ordered a new PC to use for my home server as the current one is somewhat out-dated.  I currently have a 1 TB drive and the new PC also comes with a TB drive.  As I will be retiring the original PC, I would like to just take the drive and make it the master on the new PC, slaving the 2nd drive for additional storage.  Any suggestions, obstacles or issues I should be aware of that??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Move the drive to the new computer (removing or disconnecting the drive that's currently there), then immediately perform a server reinstallation. Probably it won't boot if you don't. Make sure you have your drivers ready to install, and if you have a SATA disk you should see if you can set the BIOS to put the SATA ports into IDE mode for easiest installation.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
