SyncToy 2.1 crashes on startup RRS feed

  • Question

  • (edit.1) my confusion as to what .bat runs! of course it runs the ..Cmd.exe - duuuh ;\

(edit.1) please bear this in mind when reading. The manual run of the gui .exe is the culprit and 'this' is my sticking point. Thanks

If run SyncToy.exe manually crashes with the "...has encountered a problem and needs to close..." pane.

    Error signature:

    EventType : clr20r3     P1 : synctoy.exe     P2 : 2.1.0.0     P3 : 4adc2ea2

    P4 : system.configuration     P5 : 2.0.0.0     P6 : 4889de74     P7 : 1a6

    P8 : 136     P9 : ioibmurhynrxkw0zxkyrvfn0boyyufow

    ------------

Strange thing is once setup and figured out how to use Task Scheduler with two levels of .bat so that cmd pane pops up and then minimizes etc.

Have 5 jobs (with 2 .bat files for each) and various timings down to 10mins and one set once per day overnight.

All works great... I can even run cmdLine ver: SyncToyCmd.exe and just append the "" strings from any of the .bat files and works OK.

    IE,

    ...> SyncToyCmd "C:\Program Files\SyncToy 2.1\SyncToyCmd.exe" -R "Program Files" >> "C:\Program Files\SyncToy 2.1\SyncToy_FolderPairs.log"

    MY QUESTION
whats going on??? Obviously when first installed it ran so gui was there to allow me to play around and eventually create folderPairs.
I need to sync a wifi device on my lan but that means creating a new folderPair (am assuming sync will work on lan...)

    What alternatives do I have?
    1. Should I do ALL full syncs and then reinstall 2.1?
    2. Is there something in registry (missing or corrupted?) or a missing file somewhere? that is causing gui exe to crash?

    helllllp... :)

  • Did you by any chance uninstall the Microsoft Synchronization components from your system? These are needed by SyncToy to work.

Try installing the Sync Framework 2.0 SDK for your computer architecture from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=89adbb1e-53ff-41b5-ba17-8e43a2e66254&displaylang=en and let me know if this works.

  • Framework installed and no change still crashes same way.

    How about...

    1. Ref: DocsAndSettings >...>APPLIC~1\MICROS~1\SyncToy\2.0\syncio~1.bin, I used Strings v2.41 and the o/p shows folderPairs so I assume is container for current setup made with the gui.
    2. IF backed up 'any' file with folderPairs info in it and then reinstalled 2.0 would it A)keep or  B)overwrite ALL existing files in install dir and in the docs and settings ... path.
    3. am thinking that with a clean install + reinstating the original folderPairs data/files I'd be good to go..
Thank you for your reply. I spent many days figuring out how to set up folderPairs and Murphy's Law kicked in because I took no notes as to just 'what' attributes were set! If I could unravel the Strings v2.41 o/p I'd [at least] learn what attribs originally set up.
