Offline File Sync Errors: "The process cannot access the file..." RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I recently upgraded to Vista Ultimate and have moved the location of "My Photos" to point to the a mapped drive of where they reside on my WHS.  So that theyre available when Im not connected to the network, I have enabled Offline Files for the folder.

The problem Im experiencing is that whenever I "Sync" the folder, I recieve the following error for every file:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

Now Im not sure if this is a Vista issue or a WHS issue, but I figured I start here to see if anyone had any thoughts.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I too have this issue on SP1 of Vista Business.....but not with home server, am using Windows 2003 server and I am getting this error for every single file! I thought offline files had been improved in Vista but at least with XP it worked!

  • Yep - I get exactly the same problem both pre and post SP1 despite other posts elsewhere advising that SP1 corrects the problem.

If this is not addressed very soon - I will be rolling back to XP and will certainly not rolling out to anyone in my organisation!

  • Yes I have also had this problem with Vista Business. I rang Microsoft but they weren't interested in helping unless I paid for professioal support. I wish I had bought a Mac now.

  • A Big fat ME TOO.

I am using Vista Ultimate (no SP), connecting to Windows 2003 Server R2.

Every single file generates this error.

    My XP installations work fine!

  • The problem is WHS.  I have two Vista Ultimate machines and an XP Pro machine that work fine with 2003 and offline files.  I get errors galore in every scenario when using offline files with WHS.  Check out these threads:

  • Have you come up with an answer to this. It is the only thing keeping me from releasing a new LT to my boss?

  • Hi,

Has anybody come up with a answer to this? i am now experiencing the same issue. It is clearly not WHS, as I'm running Vista Business on my laptop, and the server has Server 2003 R2.

    thanks
