Automatic Tune up fails. RRS feed

  • Question

I have now installed OneCare on my wife's XP machine.

If I run Tune Up manually it runs. If I let it activate though automatic running ( a key feature for me) it hangs at the start of defrag. No progress whatsoever even after 3 hours. Any ideas?

  • Try running a manual defrag with the Windows disc defragmenter prior to the next scheduled tune up. If that does not resolve the issue, uninstall One Care, run the cleanup tool - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2

then reinstall One Care. If the issue persists please contact support.

  • Thank you. I tried the manual defrag first and two subsequent automatic Tune ups have worked fine.

I did notice though that if i checked progress now and then along the way by right clicking on the tune up icon in the system tray progress could be halted sometimes. The answer seems to be just leave it well alone.

  • Thank you once again.

Both my XP and Vista machines did not exhibit extraordinary CPU usage the highest being the older XP machine peaking at 50-65%.

It's good to learn however that there will be a fix soon for those who have had problems.
