  • Okay, I have a few questions before I try this out.

1: Does the Touch Pro 2 work yet? I don't want to waste my time. It's not listed on as either working or not working in that stickied devices list post.

2: Can I use this to share files with others? For example- if I have a picture my wife needs to print out, could I add it to the Mesh and she would then have access to it? And if that is the case, would I have to give her my email address and password? And getting past that, would she then have access to everything in my Mesh? Or is there a way to make a "family folder" and give everyone in my family access to that folder, and they continue to use their own private Mesh, tied to their own email address and password?

3: Assuming worse case scenario here, and I would have to give out my private email address and password in order to share a file, and then give access to my entire Mesh- is there a way I can request this to be changed in the final version?

4: I think you can see what I'm trying to accomplish here. Say I create nice CD label, but I don't have the nice printer installed. I would want to put it in a Mesh folder and have my wife access it and print it out. I would not want my wife, or anyone else, having my email address and password, and would not want them to have access to to my entire Mesh either. Is there another way to accomplish this or is Live Mesh the only hope?

5: It looks like Skydrive might actually be pretty close to what I need. Are there any plans to merge the features of Skydrive with Mesh? And will there be a mobile client for Skydrive or whatever the new product would be called? And will it work on the Touch Pro 2 or only on future devices?

If what I am seeking is not in the works, please forward this to the correct department that would consider requests.

    Thank you.

    Hello, SCK9.
I'll do my best to answer:

    1. Not yet, though some people have reported mixed results with it workng.
    2. Ignoring the mobile component, yes, you can share a Live Mesh folder. The invited person can have access via the Live Desktop (for their ID) or it can automatically sync with their PC using the Live Mesh client and their LiveID. You decide if they have read only righs or if you wish to fully share, meaning if she adds a file or deletes/changes a file, that reflects back to the Mesh on your devices.
    3. Not an issue since you can share with another user. Never give out your password.
    4. Live Mesh can do this. As can Live Sync or even simply uploading the file to SkyDrive and sending a link to the other person, sharing the folder.
    5. Rumor has it that Live Sync and Live Mesh will merge. SkyDrive is a maybe, too, but I suspect less likely. There is a mobile client for Live Mesh today and the next version should work on the Touch Pro 2 and other Windows Phone 6.5.x devices along with the current 6.x devices and future 7.0 devices. When that client will be released is unknown. Today it has problems on most of the 6.5 devices, but not all.

  • Awesome, thanks for the reply. So it looks like Live Mesh is exactly what I need. I just need it to work on my phone and I'll be set.

I hadn't heard of Live Sync. I just did a search after reading your post and got some info. It looks like it's similar to Live Mesh but without a mobile client. Is that about right?

Live Sync is strictly P2P sync, no devices - just PCs, and no Live Desktop (Cloud storage). Remote Desktop is possible in Live Sync only to machines that support Windows Remote Desktop natively - Home versions can't be connected to. Live Mesh overcomes this limitation.
Other than that, similar. And, in the future, it is rumored that Live Sync and Live Mesh will merge.
