  • You have a counterfeit installation of Windows.

The Product Key in use is from a Toshiba computer - your machine is a Samsung

For which version and edition of Windows is your machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

  • Probably should have said this before but am using a Toshiba HardDrive in a Samsung Laptop a soriginal machine broke. Didnt think that this would be a problem as have been using it for about a month now. according to the COA sticker it is licensed for Windows 7 Home Premium

  • In that case you can change the Key to the one on the COA sticker, and activate that - note that if you were to move it back to the original machine, it would become invalid, and the Key may be permanently blocked.

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI 3

hit the Enter key, and follow the instructions.

You may need to activate by phone.

  • The number on the sticker has faded. how do I go about activating by phone?

  • You should reformat and reinstall using the proper manufacturer's recovery  media for that machine - having said that, I know that Samsung refuse to provide such media, despite their contractual agreements.

There *may* be an alternative solution though, if you are patient and persistent.

Attempt Telephone Activation, and speak to an operator - they will tell you that your current Key
is blocked (they should then ask for confirmation of your Product Key). Explain
to them your problem, that you need to change the Key to the one on your sticker,
but that the sticker is unreadable (could they please supply a replacement
Key?). Hopefully they will ask for documentary proof of the sticker, in the
form of an email with a picture of the affected sticker - and you can proceed
    from there.

Sometimes it takes two or three calls before you get an operator who actually knows and uses this
procedure - but I know that it can and does happen.

  • How do I do telephone activation. on some sites including microsofts it says that when you try and activate it should give the option to avtivate by telephone, however for me it doesnt

  •

    telephone activation (operator calls)

     Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI 4

     and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

  • Use the same procedure, after ringing the local number from this list.....
