MS SQL SERVER 2008 - Problem connecting from SQL SERVER 2008 x64 to SQL Server 2000 using sp_addlinkedserver RRS feed

  • Question

  • Firstly - I apologise if this is not in the correct place, but when I entered 'SQL Server' on where is the forum for it couldn't find anything and came up with bing screen.

    I would really appreciate if MVP could move this for me to correct location.

    As I stated above I am having real problems trying to run a stored procedure from (SQL Server 2008 x64 on Windows Server 2008 x64) on another server (SQL SERVER 2000 32bit on Windows Business Server). I tried (I have changed details):

    EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server='111.11.11.111',

    @srvproduct

    ='',

    @provider

    = 'SQL Server',

    @provstr

    = 'Data Source=111.11.11.111;Initial Catalog=Test_Database; UID=sa;PWD=Password70;'

    It basically tells me SQL Server is not registered.

    Is there a problem with compatability and if so - is there a work around?

    Any help woule be appreciated.

    John.
