Running into the 0x80180114 error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to download something from the Microsoft website that requires validation, but I get the 0x80180114 error on the Office installation.

I did some checking and found that this is due to the fact that MS has blocked the VLK. This is a bit strange, since the VLK was issued by the Eopen site in 2005.

Some further checking gave me some more strange stuff. In the past we had two different VLKs in the Eopen, one for our Office 2003 Standard edition and one for our Office 2003 Professional edition. When I check the Eopen site now, I have one single VLK for the Office 2003 suites.

I don't feel much like changing our VLKs, since we are installing our Office suites using a GPO in the Active Directory.

It looks like that MS has blocked our old VLKs after 01-01-2008, because I had no problem downloading material that required validation in the past.

    Sincerely,

    Paul

  • Hello Paul,

If you are the owner of these VLK keys I would recommend speaking to your vendor from who you purchased these licenses from to determine the status of your purchased keys, if you are not the owner of these keys then I would recommend you ask the person who is in charge of maintaing your licenses to speak to the vendor regarding this issue.  Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

  • Hello Matt,

I (rather the company I work for) am the owner of the VLK keys. However, the vendor through who we purchased these licences no longer exists. It was taken over by another company and we no longer do business with them. The thing is, the licence agreements are still visible in the Eopen, but the keys have changed. It is no biggie because we don't need MGA for updating since we are using the WSUS 3 system, but it is a bit strange that, without any prior warning, our VLK keys have been declared illegal and blocked by MS while we payed a pretty big amount of money for these licences. Is it perhaps possible the old keys have just expired?

By the way, this is the output of the MGA tool:
