Mesh disables aero? RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Does the aero glass interface return after a restart. I am on my laptop, and I do not have the use of aero on it because my chip is not capable. BUT, my desktop has aero. When I installed mesh, it was disabled. Will it come back with a restart, or is this a permanent thing as long as I use mesh?

And I would also like to say thanks for a good looking beta! So far it seems to be working. I will really ramp up the use later this week. I will, when time permits, run it in comparison to some erstwhile contenders.

    Thanks for feedback,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

What OS are you running, Vista or Windows 7?

Sounds like your laptop does support Aero if you have Aero on the desktop! The best way to check if it will come back after a reboot is to reboot and see what happens. Another way is to Right click on the desktop -> Personalise and choose an Aero theme.

In general Live Mesh shouldn't disable Aero on Vista - there is a known bug that will disable Aero under Windows 7 when connecting to a remote desktop.

If Aero is permanently disabled due to Live Mesh, then that sounds like a bug to me and I would submit one according to the instructions here (once submitted please post the ID / link back here).

    Thanks!

  •  Both my laptop and desktop are running vista, business and home media edition, respectively. Aero is not possible on the lappy because the intel 915 chipset uses XDDM driver. I would not use it any way, for battery conservation purposes. After mesh was installed on the desktop, which is a dual core dell vostro, with full aero running, a message popup appeared saying aero was disabled because it was incompatible with a program running on the machine. Only new program was mesh.

That has been the only glitch so far, but have just got things installed and syncing. If this sounds like a bug then I will file a report tomorrow, after all folders and files are finished syncing and I can reboot the desktop. It has some updates waiting for a reboot any way.

Will let ya know the out come .

  • *ouch* sorry for the lack of attention to detail - must still have been seeing spots from the night!

So I'd still recommend that you just try and reenable Aero via Personalise, and then move on to a reboot and submission of a bug.

    Sorry about that!

  • Over night my desktop PC rebooted to install updates and the Aero is back up. It must be an installation hiccup, or something, that disables the aero interface when mesh is installed. Glad that it is nothing important. thanks for the replies.

  • Thanks for following this up - I'll try to repro this in a VM, although I don't see this happening on Windows 7, so here's hoping it's not a consistent bug!
