More flexible notification options RRS feed

  • It would be nice to be able to choose which users receive WHS notifications.  I don't want every user in my home to be bothered by backup warning popups and critical system errors that they don't understand.  I'd rather just enable them for my own accounts.

To make sure that these messages are received, it would also be nice if I could set up WHS to send an SMS text message to my cell phone when a warning or critical error occurs.  That way, even when I am away from home I can be made aware when a situation arises.  This option should be configurable by message type and severity.

  • You can control who receives notifications by removing the "Windows Home Server" item from the startup group on any PC you don't want the notifications on. The connector will still run on startup, so backups will still occur as scheduled, but the tray icon won't be loaded, so there will be no popups.

You should submit a suggestion on Connect regarding the SMS messaging option.
