Product key does not match RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had to run a repair on my computer because the bootmgr was compressed.
My computer came pre-loaded with Winodws Vista so I didn't have a Windows disk. My roommate has a Windows 7 disk so I used his DVD just to use the repair tool. Anyways the disk worked but now I'm faced with an error message saying my copy of Windows isn't genuine. When I go to Computer Properties it says I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate. When I check the sticker on my computer it says Windows Vista Home Premium. I bought this computer about 3 years ago and haven't changed the operating system since. I don't know how to activate my Windows because it's saying the product key doesn't match the type of operating system I'm running. Can anyone help me out with this?

  • You'll need to contact the manufacturer of your computer and ask them to send you the correct Windows Vista disk.  Then you'll have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the correct Windows Vista edition you have a product key for.
