Top Percent

Question
-
Hey,
I've been wondering how top percent is calculated. There are a great many users with little to no points who appear in the top 5 or 10%. I'm assuming this is due to the way the top percent is calculated. Wouldn't it be better to rank all ties as a single entry? That way those who are truly the top 10% will be marked as such, and the rest of us mere mortals will know our actual place?
Cheers.

Hi Patrick,
According to the explanation given here, it seems that all users are included in the count regardless of their point amounts. I imagine that's throwing the balance off.

I get that completely...
But why not count all the 0, and 5 pointers as a single number, instead of the bajillions there are?
If you have 0 points, you're top 100 percent, if you have 5 points your top 99.. or what ever those numbers would look like.

I'm not really sure what the reasoning behind the decision was. Hopefully we'll get an answer here at some point.
Personally I wouldn't include anyone in the count until at least 15 points have been accumulated (theoretically that should be at least one answer or at the very least 3 helpful posts).

Sounds reasonable. I guess you can't be top unless you're helpful!

Nope, because I rarely fall off that list... I have zero room to talk about hushing.

Good observation Patrick!
Look at the below user profile. He has 677,580 points and 0.10%. No idea what's the forumula to calculate it.
