    Hi

I seem to have a problem with Windows XP, the system boots up fine till it comes to where I need to Log on. I get a message that states:

This copy of windows must be activated with microsoft before you can log on. And when I choose to activate, it tells me you are already activated. I choose ok and it kicks me back to the log in page, where it tells me to log off.

I cant access anything on the PC and it use to work fine.

Please assist me, with a less jargon as possible seeing that I do not work in IT.

    Many thanks

  • Hello Lady A,

You may only need to contact Microsoft and activate windows via the telephen. Please follow the steps below. If this doesn't work please let me know so we can run the MGA Diag tool on your system.

Please contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1. Click “Start”, point to” All Programs”, point to “Accessories”, point to” System Tools”, and then click “Activate Windows”.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Click “Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement”, click “Back”, and then click “Next”

    .
    4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box and then click “Next”.

Note:  The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5. Once activation is completed and you receive the following message, click “OK”.
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.

  • I aslo have the same problem, I did call Microsoft and they will charge me 59.00 dlls just for speaking to technichal support. I found out at microsoft.com article ID 312295. it guides you trough modifying the registry to reactivate windows, maybe it could help you, it didn't help me, I could not find some of the files I needed to delete, neither one of the registry. best of luck to you, as far as me I think I'll have to pay an extra 59 dlls just for trying to stay legal.

  • Jose,

For us to best troubleshoot the issue you are having please create a new thread (not a reply to this one) and run the MGA diagnostic as explained in my previous post.  Once we have this information we will be able to further troubleshoot the issue you are having.
