Accessing drives outside of pool via Internet RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have been having several problems with my WHS. Most recently, I got the recurring file conflict warning that has been plaguing the PP1 update (addressed in the sticky at the top of this forum).  I have decided to disable all cases of folder duplication and remove all important files that I put on the shares. I am now keeping all but one of my hard drives outside of the drive pool (i.e. they have drive letters above D).

What I want to do is to access my non-pooled hard drives via the Internet using my homeserver.com web address. How is this done? If it can’t be done via WHS how else could I access the drives? As well is it possible to use remote desktop over the Internet to access the WHS? I don’t mean the console but rather the Windows Server 2003 interface. Even if Microsoft resolves the file conflict issue with an update I still want some drives out of the pool due to SageTV performance issues, thus I need to know these things for WHS to work for me.

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

  • There's many ways to do this, however a very easy one is the Program Launcher Add-in. It will allow you to get directly to the WHS desktop, or launch any other program from the WHS console

  • Send port 3389 to your server and you can remote desktop (RDP) to it from afar.  VPN is the best? way to get to non pooled drives.

    Still.....
